UNFPA in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan, with its population exceeding 35 million, is the most populous country in Central Asia. The country’s population is predominantly young, with children younger than age 15 comprising about 40% of the population, and youth under the age 24 accounting for nearly two-thirds. The government makes significant efforts in advancing reproductive and maternal health, improving access to information and services related to family planning and ensuring youth-friendly health services.

UNFPA has established its Country Office in Uzbekistan in 1993. Currently, UNFPA implements its fifth Country Programme in Uzbekistan, for the period of 2021-2025.  Under this strategic plan, UNFPA continues to focus on:

  • Promoting sexual reproductive health and rights
  • Ensuring equal rights and opportunities for men and women; combatting gender-based violence
  • Linking population dynamics, and development
  • Working with adolescents and youth
