Tashkent, Uzbekistan -– A mission of the UNFPA Population & Development Advisor and Population & Development Specialist as well as the Expert on demographic analysis and population projections, arrives in Tashkent to review achievements of the Third UNFPA Country Programme and advise strategic directions of the UNFPA support to achieve objectives of the Fourth Country Programme of cooperation between UNFPA and the Government of Uzbekistan in the area of population statistics and use of population data for development and monitoring of socio-economic strategies

One of the key expected results of the Uzbekistan United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) 2016-2020 is the enhancement of the national capacity for development and monitoring of socio-economic policies and programmes that integrate evidence on population dynamics, sexual and reproductive health, HIV and their links to sustainable developments.

In this context, a group of UNFPA experts arrives in Tashkent for effective planning of the technical assistance in the area of population data collection and analysis under new UNFPA Country Programme for 2016-2020.

The mission will meet with the key national partners to review current UNFPA programme initiatives on data collection and analysis and explore ways for expanding technical assistance in the area of population statistics and use of population data for development and monitoring of socio-economic strategies.

UNFPA closely cooperates with the Government of Uzbekistan in the area of population data collection and analysis. In the recent years UNFPA supported training of more than 100 national professionals and helped setting up a database of population indicators to be used in monitoring of national efforts on improvement of the livelihoods of the people in the area affected by Aral Sea environmental disaster.
