The United Nations in Uzbekistan welcomes the signing of the “Action-oriented Roadmap on Further Cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United Nations System for 2017-2020”.
In signing the Roadmap, the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the United Nations system have re-confirmed their mutual commitment to collaborate on advancing human development for all people in Uzbekistan, especially the most vulnerable and disadvantaged, and to work together to build a more prosperous, resilient and sustainable society.
Drawing on the Action Strategy of Uzbekistan 2017-2021, the draft national Sustainable Development Goals and the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) 2016-2020, the joint Roadmap outlines over one hundred key actions to foster the attainment of the strategic priorities of the Action Strategy 2017-2021 and fulfilment of the Government’s commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as well as obligations under a range of UN human rights instruments.
The overall scope of support offered by the UN in fulfilling the Roadmap includes economic and human development, effective governance and evidence-based policy making, rule of law and human rights, social and environmental protection, education and health, cultural heritage, children and women’s rights, peace-building and disaster risk reduction.
“The Roadmap gives a new impetus for Government–UN cooperation on sustainable development” said Helena Fraser, UN Resident Coordinator. “We consider the Roadmap as a practical tool with accountabilities both on the Government side and the UN side, and we see this as an important next step in taking the Action Strategy and SDGs to the operational level, advancing prosperity and dignity for all in Uzbekistan.”
The United Nations in Uzbekistan, together with United Nations entities operating at global and regional levels, are committed to collaborate with and support the Government of Uzbekistan in implementing the provisions of the present Roadmap. All efforts will be made to mobilize and secure resources to fulfill the obligations in the Roadmap through coordinated advocacy with the donor and development partners.
