United Nations team in Uzbekistan in partnership with the Senate of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan and nationwide movement “Yuksalish” has launched Decade of Action to achieve the sustainable development goals in Uzbekistan by 2030.
Today, progress is being made in many places, but, overall, action to meet the sustainable development goals is not yet advancing at the speed or scale required. 2020 needs to usher in a decade of ambitious action to deliver the Goals by 2030.
The Decade of Action calls for accelerating sustainable solutions to all the world’s biggest challenges — ranging from poverty and gender to climate change, inequality and closing the finance gap. It also requires each of us to take action—individually and collectively, locally and globally.
The launch was held on 2 March, the day when Uzbekistan became a Member State of the United Nations in 1992 and aimed at showcasing commitment of youth, civil society organizations, social media and media activists, senators, members of the Parliament and Government of Uzbekistan to achieve the sustainable development goals.
The speakers spoke about importance of personal engagement and practical action, community mobilization and working together to address issues related to gender equality, poverty reduction, road safety, good health and wellbeing, freedom of speech and responsible consumption and production.
On 20 October 2018 the Government of Uzbekistan adopted the resolution “On measures to Implement the National Goals and Targets in the Field of Sustainable Development for the Period Until 2030.”
The resolution sets 16 national sustainable development goals and 127 related targets for 2030. It also envisages preparation of regular national reports on implementation of SDGs in Uzbekistan, as well as gradual integration of sustainable development goals into the state development programmes and budgets of Uzbekistan.
