Komola Khudoyberdiyeva, midwife:

"I have been a midwife for 16 years, dedicating my life to ensuring safe childbirth and improving maternal and newborn health. My journey has been shaped by continuous learning and the adoption of modern, evidence-based practices supported by UNFPA.

One critical night at the Chinaz District Maternity Hospital, a young woman arrived in labor. Everything seemed routine until she suddenly began experiencing severe bleeding. The situation required immediate intervention—every second mattered.

Thanks to the advanced training provided by UNFPA, Komola remained composed and acted swiftly:stabilized her condition, controlled the bleeding, and ensured the baby’s safe delivery.

"Before, we relied mostly on experience, sometimes hesitating in critical moments. But now, with structured protocols and hands-on training, we respond confidently and efficiently," Komola shares.

UNFPA plays a crucial role in equipping healthcare professionals with life-saving skills. By supporting Uzbekistan’s healthcare system, UNFPA ensures that midwives and obstetricians receive international-standard training on emergency obstetric care, antenatal services, and reproductive health.

Digitalization, data-driven decision-making, and evidence-based protocols are the future of maternal health in the country. For Komola, being a midwife is more than a profession—it is a commitment to protecting life at the most vulnerable moments.
