For some, life is an intricate pattern of births, deaths, migrations, and the myriad factors that shape it. Unraveling these demographic threads is a life mission. Muazzam Sabirova found her passion in these threats.
Muazzam is a bright rising star in the field of demographic studies who pursued her Bachelor and Masters degree at the National University of Uzbekistan. The threat of her own lifelong curiosity starts from exploring the complex web of human population dynamics. As the tasks become more sophisticated, Muazzam felt a need to have a better understanding of population studies. Then she applied for the Summer School for Young Demographers organized by the UNFPA together with the scientific research institute Oila and Mahalla.
The curriculum offered participants a comprehensive set of topics, ranging from fertility and mortality to migration and population projections. She engaged in heated debates, conducting research, and presenting her findings to an audience of peers and mentors.
“It was a transformative experience. The Summer School brought together young minds from diverse backgrounds, providing a platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and mentorship,” recalled Muazzam.
The young scientists came out equipped with more knowledge to become a future leader in the field. She returned to the National University of Uzbekistan with a renewed sense of purpose, armed with practical skills, research insights, and a network of like-minded peers.
“It was a journey of discovery and empowerment. I am excited to contribute to the field of demography and to be part of the generation that shapes the future of our world through the lens of population studies,” concluded Muazzam.
