On October 4 of this year, Committee on Women and Gender Equality of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, the United Nations Office in Uzbekistan and its specialized agencies held a Sustainable Development Goals Dialogue on Gender Equality in Uzbekistan.

Members of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, the United Nations Office in Uzbekistan and its specialized agencies, ministries and agencies, international financial institutions, development partners, private sector, youth, civil society institutions and media representatives took part in the event.

During the dialogue, opinions were exchanged on the reforms implemented in Uzbekistan to ensure gender equality, strengthen families, expand the rights and opportunities of women, and support their employment.

At the moment, it was recognized that the share of women in medicine is 77%, in education 74%, in economy and industry 46%, as well as the share of women in management is 33% and in the ranks of parties 47%.

At the event, the adoption of a new law this year aimed at reliable protection of the rights, freedoms and legal interests of women and children, the establishment of administrative and criminal responsibilities for offenses such as family (domestic) violence, harassment, and sexual harassment triggered discussions.

In addition, in the last six years, the adoption of more than 40 legislative acts aimed at ensuring gender equality, expanding the rights and opportunities of women, protecting them from harassment and violence, and strengthening the family institution, including the importance of the strategy for ensuring gender equality in Uzbekistan until 2030 and their implementation within the frame of the National Program and Action Plans were discussed in detail by the participants.

It was emphasized that the reforms carried out in the field are highly appreciated by a number of international rating agencies, in particular, in the "Open Gender Data Index" of the Open Data Watch organization, Uzbekistan ranked 18th among 195 countries with a score of 69.7, making it one of the top 20 countries.

At the end of the event, the participants exchanged opinions on new approaches, ideas and initiatives to achieve gender equality in Uzbekistan, proposals and recommendations were developed.
