Today, in Tashkent, the grand opening of a remarkable art mural took place, a joint initiative by UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, and Safia Bakery. This project is part of the global 16 Days of Activism Against Violence Against Women campaign, aiming to raise awareness about gender-based violence and inspire positive change.

Located on the facade of the Safia Bakery building, the mural depicts a moving portrayal of a family rooted in mutual respect, support, and care. Central to the composition is the theme of involved fatherhood, symbolized by the image of a father reading with his child. This powerful visual highlights the critical role men play in family life, from raising children to fostering a safe and nurturing home environment. Bright national patterns woven into the design reflect the importance of preserving cultural heritage while integrating it into modern efforts to promote equality and combat violence.

At the unveiling ceremony, representatives of UNFPA and Safia Confectionery emphasized the transformative power of art to communicate essential social messages to diverse audiences.

Objectives of the Project:

  • Raise awareness of gender-based violence and its impact.
  • Promote values of equality, involved fatherhood, and non-violent communication within families.
  • Inspire action in society to prevent violence and foster positive change.

The mural, designed by talented artist Nadezhda Rikhsillaeva, carries profound meaning through its vibrant aesthetic. Reflecting on her contribution, she said:
"It is an honor to be part of such an impactful project. Through this mural, I wanted to convey a message of equality, respect, and love within families. I hope it inspires all who see it to build a kinder, more inclusive world."

Strategically located near a university and a busy urban area, the mural engages young people daily, encouraging them to reflect on values such as equality, mutual respect, and shared responsibility in shaping a better future. It stands as a lasting symbol of positive change and a call to action for the next generation to champion a violence-free society.
